TIPS & ADVICE

Cropping a Photo to Fit a Picture Window

Every Kolo Photo Album includes a cutout window on the front cover. This window holds a small photo to personalize the album. Use this space to give a taste of what the theme of the album is. Think of it as a title page.

Depending on your album size, the size of the window opening will vary. Once you have decided which photo you want to use, you’ll need to trim it to fit the window, and slide it into the opening.

Measure the window opening to be sure your picture will work in the space. You're going to trim the photo to be 1/4" larger on all four sides. In this example, the window is 3" square, so the final cropped size of the photo will be 3 1/2" square.

The pocket where you'll slip the photo is on the inside of the front cover, with a slot cut out for inserting the photo. The opening on the fron is smaller than the pocket, so the hidden edges can hold the photo in place.

Using a craft knife and a straight edge, cut your photo to size. You can also use scissors, as and wobbly or uneven edges will be hidden, but be careful not to cut the picture too small.

Once you have the photo cut to the right size, slide it into the pocket.

Use your fingertips on the face of the photo to move it slightly up or down, as necessary. Any marks can be wiped off after with a soft cloth.
